Debt Recovery Letter

Debt Recovery Letter

UK Debt Recovery is a company that provides debt recovery and debt collection services to a large number of clients. Clients contact us at various stages of their own attempted debt recovery - sometimes, it's just one day past the debt deadline, and other times they approach us after they've exhausted all the means of contacting their debtors. Of course, we can help you at any stage of debt recovery. However, we believe that the best approach is to get in touch with us after you've written a debt recovery letter and haven't received any response from the creditor.

A debt recovery letter is essentially that -a letter which sole purpose is to engage with your creditor to whom the letter is addressed. There are a lot of sample debt recovery letters on the Internet that you can use to help you write the perfect one. However, we at UK Debt Recovery believe that it is a bad idea to simply download a sample and fill it out with your data. The templates are a good starting point, but at the end of the day, the one writing the letter is you, and not every sample would work for your situation.

First thing to keep in mind when writing a debt recovery letter is that it is, first and foremost, an official document. For that reason, it is a bad idea to include references to things you might have little or no knowledge about. Some templates found on the Internet contain references to certain regulations and laws, but unless you know them really well, we don't advise you to include them. If your creditor knows these regulations and laws and if you've misused them in your letter, they will be less than impressed and it would substantially lower your chances to foster a mutually beneficial relationship with them.

Secondly - don't trust everything you read online. There are many sites that would tell you that if you just include certain things in your letter to your creditor, you're all but sorted. We at UK Debt Recovery know that fostering a relationship with a creditor can sometimes be a straightforward process, but more often than not, it takes time and genuine effort of both parties. We advise that you avoid anything that sounds too good to be true to you and don't include things of the kind in your debt recovery letter.

If you have several creditors that you need to write to, don't use a single template for all of them. Chances are, some of your debts are more crucial than others, and you should therefore prioritise your creditors to the best of your ability. You most likely owe money to different entities for different reason, so take that into account when you write your debt recovery letters.

If you aren't completely sure about your circumstances and how to write a debt recovery letter in your situation - or if your situation indeed warrants a debt recovery letter - it would be best to get some help from a professional body that deals with debt recovery. This could be particularly useful if you owe a large sum of money or have several different creditors that you need to pay. It could also be very helpful if you received a court summons and are unsure what to do - a debt recovery letter would usually not be the best response in that case.

We at UK Debt Recovery believe that no matter what the nature of your debt is, several rules always apply when you are composing a debt recovery letter. First of all, always include the following information:

- Date

- Your full name

- Your current address and any previous addresses that might be relevant

- Any relevant account numbers

- Telephone number if you are happy with your creditor calling you

- Date of a letter to which you are replying, if relevant

- Any other personal information such as e-mail address if relevant

Finally, we would like to give you a rough idea of what kind of templates for debt recovery letters are out there, so that you can make a decision as to whether or not to use a template and which template would work best for your situation.

Firstly, there are templates for debt recovery letters asking for a payday loan refund which tell the creditor that your loans were unaffordable even if you managed to repay them before the deadline and ask for a refund. Secondly, there are several templates that help you write a letter about setting up your personal debt management plan. If you already have a debt management plan in place but are still having trouble with a debt, there are templates of letters that ask the creditors to freeze interest on a debt management plan. Thirdly, there are many templates that provide assistance with debt recovery letters which challenge a debt that you don't think you owe or a very old debt which is statute barren. There are also letter templates which can help you write a final settlement offer for your creditor, or correct an error on your record, or indeed fix any other debt recovery issues.
